Welcome to the Postdoctoral Community of the Faculty of Physics!
This is a dynamic and international group of researchers working on a wide range of projects in Physics and Astronomy.
Here you will find information about life in Chile and the requirements for obtaining a temporary residence visa in the country.
Upon receiving a postdoctoral offer from UC, we begin the visa application process approximately 90 days prior to your arrival; however, this timeline may vary depending on your country of application.
International postdoctoral researchers need a temporary residence visa, which can last up to two years and can lead directly to permanent residency. This visa allows recipients to receive payments from multiple sources and provides the flexibility to issue boletas (legal payment receipts commonly used in Chile) for services rendered to institutions other than their main employer. For this reason, we do not accept any other type of visa.
The Postdoctoral Office of the Faculty is available to assist you throughout the immigration process.
Be sure to explore all the resources offered by the UC Vice Presidency for Research for incoming postdoctoral researchers.
Santiago is a major city, home to approximately 8 million people.
In the following document, you will find practical information to help plan your arrival in the country, including transportation, cost of living, and climate.
